FAVORITE THING TO DO ON AN OC-1 (i.e. downwind run, surf, fish, etc.): Downwind paddling in technical surf

 

IF YOU'RE NOT PADDLING YOU'RE:  Hanging out with friends, golfing or taking a nap.

 

IF YOU COULD TAKE ANYONE TO DINNER (dead or alive) WHO WOULD IT BE:  My granddad Will Rich and wife Angie. My granddad was my father figure, and I would have loved for my wife to meet him.

 

MUSIC OR NO MUSIC WHILE PADDLING.  IF MUSIC, WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU ENJOY ON THE OCEAN:  I listen to house music by Calvin Harris to get the blood pumping while paddling.

 

BEST PIECE OF LIFE ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED:  Hard work is job security.

 

FAVORITE OC-1 RACE:  2005 Molokai Relay. It was a hard flat crossing, but was also my first big win with Kai. It was the happiest day of my teenage life.

 

WHO IS YOUR HERO IN LIFE:  My granddad Will Rich is my hero in life. He worked hard throughout his life and made constant sacrifices for my family. I strive to be more like him.

IF YOU COULD INSTILL ONE THING IN THE NEXT GENERATION OF PADDLING WHAT WOULD IT BE:  Be persistent and patient. Good things take time to develop, so work hard and trust in the process.
