The Hydra pairs Kai Waʻa design & performance expertise with the construction & quality of Outrigger Zone to bring you exceptional comfort and versatility to perform in all conditions. With decades of experience as both an elite paddler and canoe designer chosen by champions, Kai Bartlett set out to raise the bar for OC6 canoes worldwide. Built using Outrigger Zone's state of the art technology, the Hydra brings a combination of strength and lightness that is unmatched.
The Hydra has a fast, easy pickup and good glide - it picks up in the bump well and holds the glide without needing extra effort to keep it running. The hull has ample rocker to help it perform in all conditions, she runs well in the flatwater and she runs great in the bump. The shape of the belly is something new, this shape allows for good glide and hits that sweet spot when it comes to surfing and gliding in the flat. The Lele ama design allows for easier maneuverability, allowing you to steer the canoe vs the canoe steering you. During the prototype testing phase we had crews from all ages and abilities test her out, Juniors on Maui and Oahu, all the way up through Aunties and Uncles. While there can be some sacrifices when designing a canoe - is it a surf canoe, is it for flatwater, is it easy to handle, is it for more experienced steersmen - we wanted to factor in all conditions and paddlers at every skill level, bringing something new to the global paddling community without compromising. IAKO + RIGGING

IAKOS - Focusing on strength while reducing weight, the redesigned Hydra iakos are about 50% lighter than previous Unlimited canoes, with all new adjustment capabilities.

RIGGING - An important new feature of the Hydra is the rigging/receiver setup. There is no adjustment on the ama side like previous Ultralight canoes. Instead, the hull-side receivers are separate blocks that sit in a curved-bottom slot in the hull.

By moving the receivers right and left, you bring the ama up or down.

LELE AMA

Our popular Lele OC6 ama for Spec & Koa canoes, has been optimized to match our Unlimited canoe.

Following the trend for other Hydra components, the Lele ama on the Hydra is lighter than any other modern OC6 ama.
SPRAY SKIRT

Instead of 1 skirt per seat, the Hydra has three pairs of skirts that cover 2 seats each. This innovative spray skirt design results in less track and less material, reducing overall weight.

Zipper of 2nd seat in each pair is asymmetrical. Zipper pull with golf ball for easy opening/closing. Heavy duty YKK zippers, designed to last.
